Halibut Fishing
Pacific Halibut are a delicious, light and flakey white meat fish. We drift for "Butts" in water from 230 - 800+ feet of water. This can make checking bait a bit of a challenge and tiring to your cranking arm. We do have some electric reels in our arsenal that makes this task a lot easier. You can anticipate catching Halibut from 15 lbs. to in excess of 70 lbs. Halibut caught of the Oregon coast will get to over 50+ inches. The majority of fish we catch and keep are between 35" and 45" with a few 50" class fish thrown in. Reeling them up is similar to reeling up a flat sheet of plywood through the water column. It takes some work but the bounty is well worth it. The season typically runs from May - September based off of a weight quota set by the International Pacific Halibut Commission. Once quota is met the fishery is closed but that hasn't happened in a long time.
